The founder's story
What happens when you lose the professional identity you spent 20 years building?
Vishal Pandya, founder of YConnect
A few days ago, I was sitting in a meeting with a client when we got into a rather interesting conversation. Someone asked me a question:
"What if looking professional, being recognized, and building trust weren't privileges reserved for a few, but opportunities available to everyone?"
I paused for a moment. And then I shared something personal.
Back in 2022, I walked away from my corporate career to pursue something different. I deleted my LinkedIn profile. Thousands of connections. Years of recommendations, references, professional relationships, accomplishments, and a network I had spent more than two decades building. Gone.
At the time, I didn't think much of it. I was ready for a new chapter. I thought I could always start again if I needed to. Life, however, has a funny way of putting you back at crossroads when you least expect it. A few unexpected turns later, I found myself needing to rebuild my professional identity.
Where do I even begin?
How do you find people you once knew? How do you reconnect with relationships you spent years building? How do you establish the credibility you once had? I have two master's degrees and more than 22 years of experience in business and technology. Yet rebuilding something as simple as my professional presence felt like climbing a mountain.
It made me think about something much bigger. If someone with my education, experience, and professional background finds it this difficult, what happens to everyone else?
What about the small business owner who never went to college but has spent 25 years serving their community? What about the independent contractor, the home service professional, the young entrepreneur, the single parent starting over, or someone who simply has a talent but doesn't know how to present it professionally?
Do they deserve less visibility? Of course not.
But the world doesn't always make it easy for them to be seen. That question stayed with me. And somewhere along the way, it became the reason I started building YConnect.
Not because the world needs another social media platform. Honestly, I think we have enough of those. I wanted to build something much simpler, something more human. A place where an individual or a small business can have a beautiful, professional identity. Something they can share instantly. Something that represents who they really are, what they do, and what they bring to the table.
But there's another part that matters even more to me. Your community. Imagine having people who know you, have worked with you, trust you, and believe in what you do stand behind you. Not because you paid for advertising. Not because you have a fancy title. Not because an algorithm decided you deserved attention. But because someone can genuinely say:
"I know this person. I've worked with them. I trust them."
That's the kind of value I want YConnect to help create. I'm not building YConnect to create another trillion-dollar company. I'm hoping to create something that can make a difference to billions of people. Billions of individuals. Millions of small businesses. Communities where people know each other, support each other, and have a better way to find and recognize the good in one another.
YConnect will always be free to use, with an optional upgrade for $1.58 a month. Because I don't believe something this fundamental should be out of reach for someone simply because they cannot afford it.
I don't know how far this idea will go. I don't have all the answers, and I'm certainly not pretending to have everything figured out. But I know why I started.
Life takes us down unexpected roads. Sometimes we lose our jobs, businesses, relationships, networks, confidence, or the identity we spent years building. You shouldn't have to start from zero just because life made you take a different road.
YConnect is my small effort to change that. To help people show the real them, give their work the recognition it deserves, and let the people who know them stand beside them at every fork in the road.
"Our greatest value isn't what our résumé says about us. It's what we mean to one another."
One person. One small business. One community at a time. That's why I'm building YConnect. And I hope you'll be part of it.
Be part of it.
